Nighttime is one of the most unsafe periods to drive during. Night driving is responsible for more accidents than any other part of the day and it is important to understand how to be safer if you are driving a lot at night.

Start by making yourself familiar with where you will be driving. Using a GPS unit or studying maps can greatly solve many of the issues that you may experience when driving in an unknown area.

If you notice someone driving erratically on the road at night, then be cognizant of drunk or impaired drivers. Keep a reasonable distance and avoid interacting with them to whatever degree possible, given the situation.

Be cautious at all times and avoid using brights which can be blinding to other drivers. If you are using them on empty roads, be quick to turn them off when another vehicle approaches and understand the impact they may have on animals who can become blinded.
