Potholes are the worst. They are often unavoidable, and they are more than just an uncomfortable nuisance. According to AAA, potholes cost drivers in the United States nearly $3 billion every year, with individual drivers paying $300 or more per incident. Fortunately, Ford has introduced a new advanced suspension system, exclusively for the upcoming Fusion V6 Sport, that takes the jolt out of a pothole impact.

The system leverages 12 high-resolution sensors that constantly send information about road conditions to onboard computers. When the system detects the edge of a pothole, the dampers are immediately adjusted to their stiffest setting, preventing the wheel from falling too far into the hole. This mitigates the impact with the other side, save your car and your wallet.

“We tested and tuned this system by driving over countless potholes – subjecting Fusion V6 Sport to the brutal, square-edged potholes of our Romeo Proving Grounds to finesse the software,” said Michener. “It was long hours of not very pleasant work, but the results are well worth it.”

The all-new Fusion V6 Sport with continuously controlled damping and pothole mitigation technology arrives at Ford dealerships this summer.
